Anti-Wrinkle Injections

The most effective and long-lasting anti-ageing treatment on the market – Botulinum toxin is formed of a natural protein that can be used to interrupt the muscle contraction process and prevent frowning, squinting and other facial expressions from creating creases and wrinkles in the face.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections (Toxin) is the treatment of choice for people who have lines on the upper face; you may hear people talk about having “3 areas,” which refers to:

Forehead lines (smooths lines across the forehead area)
Frown lines (smooths lines between eyebrows that become pronounced from frowning or squinting)
Crow’s feet – Wrinkles around their eyes (smooths fine lines on either side of the eye corners)

These areas can be treated individually (excluding the Forehead) or together.

1 area – Frown Lines or Crows feet
2 areas – Frown & Forehead or Frown and Crown Feet
3 areas – Frown, Forehead and crows feet

*Anti-Wrinkle Injections are not used to smooth lines on the lower face – lines between nose to mouth or on lip or cheeks should be treated with dermal filler.

Do Anti-Wrinkle Injections Hurt?

An anaesthetic isn’t needed because discomfort is minimal. There may be a mild stinging sensation during treatment, and a transient headache has occasionally been reported following treatment.

What is Botulinum Toxin?

It is a purified protein produced by the clostridium bacterium and is used in extremely small amounts to relax dynamic wrinkles caused by the contraction of muscles.

How safe are Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections are safe and effective, side effects are minimal and allergic reactions to injections do not occur. Botulinum toxin is used in much higher doses to treat migraines and excessive sweating disorders than in cosmetic procedures, and has an extensive medical safety record, having been used for more than 20 years to treat neurological and ophthalmological disorders. Botulinum toxin is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

What is the aftercare?

Remain upright for 2 hours
Do not apply make-up for approximately 6 hours unless it is mineral based
Wash your hands immediately post procedure
Do not touch your face in the areas injected for 6 hours
Do small extra contractions of the muscles treated every 20 minutes for the first hour
When cleansing, avoid pressure and use gentle strokes away from the eyes
Avoid facial massages or electrical stimulation of the face for the next 14 days
Avoid wearing tight caps or garments in the area that has been injected
Avoid alcohol and exposure to UV and extreme heat i.e. sauna, steam, sun beds, very hot showers, strenuous exercise etc

What are the side effects of Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

Injections can cause small amounts of swelling, a temporary bump, redness, bruising, a mild to moderate headache, and sensations such as tingling or mild itching after treatments. These effects are so common they can be considered a normal part of the process. Some patient’s report a mild headache or numbness, and very rarely a temporary brow or eyelid droop may occur which may last a few weeks.

What can I expect after the treatment?

The initial effects will show in the first 2 – 5 days. Peak effect on the muscle is at 14 days, but the result will continue to improve for 4 weeks or more.

The benefits start to wear off after 3 – 4 months on average. Routine adjustments to results can be carried out from day 14 after your procedure.

How many treatments will be given?

Results will last for 3 – 6 months. If you decide to discontinue treatment, your wrinkles will gradually return to the way they were before treatment.
